Ta-hui Tsung-kao

Ta-hui Tsung-kao was a monk associated with the Lin-chi school of Ch'an Buddhism.
   
He introduced the method of examining the critical expression of a koan version.
   
Ta-hui is most well-known for contending the practice of silent sitting is calculated to produce barren emptiness and lifeless escapism.
