Burberry Christmas Campaign

Burberry releases a new Christmas campaign.  Shot and directed by Juno Calypso.  Exploring tradition and ritual.  Focused in a film called ‘Close Your Eyes and Think of Christmas’.  Cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas and M.I.A, making their Burberry debut, Matt Smith, and Naomi Campbell.  Naomi's mum, Valerie Morris-Campbell, also appears.

Juno Calypso said: ‘I wanted to portray a more realistic British Christmas, but still shot through a fantasy lens.  The campaign takes you through all the key seasonal rituals, both good and bad.  That’s what brings us together.’

From the beastly British weather to family affection, late trains, and festivity, these motifs are tumbled through Juno’s subverted and surprising lens.  The campaign is grounded in classic Burberry.  From the trench coat, car coat, TB Monogram and archive-print scarves, to The Belt Bag, tailoring, and evening wear.

Naomi Campbell said: 'Over the past years, Burberry has become known for these campaigns and I feel honored to take part in another one.  I have always loved Burberry for its distinctive British feel, and I am so excited to work alongside a cast which includes my own mother, Valerie.  Working with her brought back so memories of the holidays and traditions I had growing up – so that felt special.’

Valerie Morris-Campbell said: 'It’s been nearly four years since Naomi and I last worked on a shoot together, so this was a special moment for me.  A lot of fun to be on set together enjoying each other’s company.  I’ll remember this project for a long time and I’m honored to be part of Burberry’s history.'

M.I.A. said: 'I’m actually entertained by the fact that I am in a Christmas campaign.  I never thought that M.I.A was Christmassy.  But I do like red and green – those are my favorite colors.'

Kristin Scott Thomas added: 'An experience I will remember for a long time – it’s not every day you shoot a Christmas scene in a heatwave!'

The new Burberry logo, conceived by British designer Peter Saville, emerges here and there in the film.  On the silk scarf worn by Kristin standing in a train carriage on her way to a family affair, and on the seat covers nearby.

The campaign plays up the Burberry penchant for blending cultured apparel with eye-popping adornments.  Kristin Scott Thomas wears the archetypal trench coat with a pair of gold drop earrings.  Matt Smith cuts an irritated figure in a tartan jacket and tan sweater.  Mathangi wears a brown trench coat, her hair styled in a 1960s beehive wrapped in a silk scarf.
