Marc Jacobs Re-Issues Grunge

Marc Jacobs reveals Redux Grunge Collection 1993/2018 Marc Jacobs.  A capsule celebrating 25 years since the Spring 1993 'Grunge' collection he designed for Perry Ellis.

Marc chose to renew the collection for Resort 2019, this time for his eponymic label, saying: 'The Grunge collection epitomized the first time in my professional career I was unwavering in my determination to see my vision come to life on the runway, without creative compromise.'  26 key looks are re-issued in their entirety.  Read-to-wear, jewelry, shoes, and accessories, all made in the original prints, fabrics, and embroideries.

Playing up looks from the runway show, this troche brings the famous collection to a new audience. Created during Marc's stint at Perry Ellis, he was notoriously fired after critics panned the Spring 1993 show.  Bernadine Morris of the New York Times wrote: 'A typical outfit looks as if it were put together with the eyes closed in a very dark room.'  Critics have walked back their harsh and hasty remarks in the years since.

The grunge subculture Marc's silk slip dresses, chunky combat boots, and plaid shirts imputed are now recognized as the style marks of the decade.  The collection was seminal, defining 1990s aesthetics with its relaxed beanies, slack plaid silk flannels, beaded floral slip dresses, and striped tees.  25 years later, Perry Ellis International congratulates Marc Jacobs on revisiting the 'first of its kind collection that changed the direction of contemporary women's wear.'

A campaign shot by Juergen Teller starring Gigi Hadid and Dree Hemingway will appear in December magazines.
