Althea opens in Saks Fifth Avenue Chicago. Matthew Kenney's vegan cafe fom Venice is on the 7th floor of the Michigan Avenue store. Chicago-based vegan and vegetarian chef Kelsey Knowles heads Althea's kitchen.
Matthew said: 'We adapted our dishes that we've found work over the last couple of years. I’ve been visiting Chicago since the ‘90s and was always impressed by the robust dining scene in the city. I am excited and honored to bring our plant-based cuisine there, with our first restaurant being inside such an esteemed establishment as Saks Fifth Avenue.'
The name Althea is derived from the Greek word althein, meaning 'to heal'. Offering Matthew's famous Spicy Udon Noodle Soup and Heirloom Tomato and Zucchini Lasagna, plus cocktails and organic biodynamic wines and beers. Menu items like kelp noodles, kimchi dumplings, spicy udon soup, chickpea curry, and butternut squash gnocchi, are animated by cosmopolitan culinary arts.
Althea is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
