Pharrell Partners With Chanel
Chanel reveals Pharrell Williams will design his first collection of clothing and accessories in alliance with Chanel. Pharrell showed up at Chanel’s first fashion show in Bangkok Wednesday night in a yellow hoodie tagged with interlocking CC and Coco logos.
The Pharrell-Chanel friendship began when he made his debut in 'Reincarnation', a short film created and directed by Karl Lagerfeld. This accompanied the Chanel Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Métiers d'Art collection shown on December 2nd, 2014 in Salzburg.
Chanel says the capsule collection will premiere on March 29th in their Seoul flagship boutique. A worldwide release follows at select Chanel boutiques on 4th April. Details have not yet emerged about the arrangements of Pharrell's first crack at ready-to-wear for Chanel.
Before, he designed a pair of sneakers in alliance with Chanel Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld and Adidas Originals. This co-branding opportunity was part of Chanel’s annexing of the Paris concept store Colette. At the release, Chanel x Adidas Originals x Pharrell Williams Hu NMD sneakers were limited to 500 pairs at €1,000 a pair. Before this troika, Pharrell had already designed sneakers for Adidas directly.
As a Chanel brand ambassador, Pharrell made history in 2017 as the first man to ever front a handbag campaign. The intention was to show the bag went well with men who are 11-time Grammy winners. Pharrell has already designed capsule collections with G-Star, Moncler, and Timberland.
This week, he made headlines for sending a letter to Donald Trump via lawyer Howard King. The letter directs 'Pharrell has not, and will not, grant you permission to publicly perform or otherwise broadcast or disseminate any of his music.' The demand came after Trump played the rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, performance artist, and fashion designer's hit 'Happy' at an Indiana rally.
